HOME DESIGN TRENDS TO WATCH IN 2023

The tides turn again! Regardless of how you feel about it, get ready to see more colour, heavier wooden elements, a mix of old and new styles, and overall, a shift that shows off more decorator personality than we’ve seen over the past few years. And wait - enclosed kitchens??? GASP!

  1. COLOUR - Step over, greige, you’ve had your turn. Get ready to make way for mustards, plums, and even bright pops and various tones of blue. Neutrals have a way of being timeless, but we are seeing people ready to take some risks and create spaces that really showcase some personality.

  2. SUSTAINABLE FURNISHINGS - It’s time to get on board with decor and textiles that are more sustainable. Not only does this mean more items that are natural such as wood, linen, and stone, it also means purchasing second-hand or incorporating items from days gone by, such as family heirlooms or favourite vintage pieces. This will inevitably lend itself to mixing eras and creating spaces that inspire nostalgia and pack true meaning.

  3. ENCLOSED KITCHENS - After over 2 decades of questing for open-concept everythings, people are starting to desire a kitchen that is - at least partially - enclosed. Anyone who cooks in real life knows a kitchen is made to get messy, and hiding the constant mess can be a real slog. A partial enclosure can allow the mess to stay away while still allowing the cook to participate in all of family or entertaining life.

  4. STRIPES - Like them or hate them, they do have their place for creating depth and dimension easily, while helping rooms appear larger. Get ready to see them appear on both walls and furniture alike.

  5. GOLD ACCENTS - Part of a ‘limitless luxe’ movement this year (luxury can be everywhere, including laundry rooms and bathrooms), gold hardware remains the classy b*tch she’s always been. Does this mean she will prevail over the black hardware and fixtures that have ruled the roost the past few years? Jury’s still out…. but my vote is yes.

The more things change, the more they stay the same! Which trends are you looking most forward to? Even better - which trend would you abolish forever if you could?? Tell me in the comments!
